I want to dispel some of the inaccurate comments on this site, since I browsed it when I was first deciding to come to GW.

First, let me explain some of the demographic at GW, which will explain why this school has received some bad reviews. A large number of those who came to GW were attempting to get into a "better" school, like Georgetown, failed, and ended up coming here instead. On top of this, many of them are also from EXTREMELY rich families, and, therefore, where afforded the chance to go to a private school. Private schools have had a problem with grade inflation for years. So, when a freshman comes to GW, because he/she couldn't get into the school of her choice, and then gets a B, the grade he or she rightfully deserved, it's no wonder why the student would be angry.

so, I'll break it down further. Keep in mind, this is only what I think of GW so far.

Students:

The majority of students here are actually very nice. There is a large number of them that are truly rich brats, but they're actually in the minority. That said, guys, the numbers are in your favor: around 60% women to men, and around 20% of the guys are gay. The large majority of students at GW are attractive and intelligent. I was really impressed with the people I found here, barring an annoying few.

Teachers/academia:

The teachers are relatively good. An advantage of being in a private school is that classes are relatively small and interactive. I'm dual majoring in computer science and international affairs.

For the international affairs part: I guarantee that you'll never find a better place than GW to study. I say this because the teachers I've had have all been experts in their fields. For instance, I took a class in human rights in soviet Russia. My teacher had ACTUALLY LIVED through Stalinist Russia. It's not uncommon for Ex-CIA agents to teach classes at GW.

For Computer Science: the education you'll get is good, not the best, but good. We regularly get speakers like Richard Stallman to speak at GW. Students often get internships at the CIA, DOD, DOJ, and elsewhere in the government.

Money:

Yes, GWU is expensive, but it also has a plethora of financial aid available. You can get a 10,000 scholarship, automatically, with a 3.7 your freshman year. For engineers: We're small, but we get a CRAP LOAD of financial aid.

The Downside:

To tell you the truth, there are a few things I don't like about GW, most of which are complaints about how impersonal and money-grubbing it is on it's surface, but if you think you'll find any college that's better…You're kidding yourselves. Colleges are businesses, that's why they want students. The high tuition has caused a lot of nepotism towards richer families, so spoiled brat syndrome does run rampant, but it's dissapating as GW becomes a better institution.

Summary:

Don't take college rankings seriously. GW is a great upper-tier school. Keep in mind that GW is THE fastest growing school in the rankings and will continue to do so. The school is constantly expanding and constantly getting better. I, personally, had the choice of here, CMU, or Purdue, and I chose here, I hope you do the same.

Responses
responseThe problem is that in many educational institutions they are mainly engaged in the study of theory. Unfortunately, it practically doesn't help when the graduate is faced with the first real assignments.
commentSurprisingly, I ran into this problem. I studied to be a developer. Of course, that was a long time ago, but now I understand that I know absolutely nothing. When the need arose, I had to contact the angular js development company to solve my problem. In general, I liked working with its developers, but that's a pity that my knowledge was never useful.
