Positive Negative Neutral Advice
BU's a great school with a lot toQuite BrightHistory/Histories (art history/etc.)
BU's a great school with a lot to offer, but there's a lot of little things that become very unerving. Most recently, it's the issue of grade deflation, which every professor seems to refuse to acknowledge. Second, while BU is very helpful at first, they're academic advising, at least in the history dept, is sub-par. I received almost no guidance from my advisor for both semesters, he seemed indifferent as to what classes I took. While a lot of students like BU, you can tell no one is completely satisfied; everyone has at least a few gripes. Academically, you'll find BU most likely not challenging enough, as most of the student body attend BU as a second-choice school. While it is a great school to start at, it might be better to work hard and then transfer to a higher-calibur institution.

Question
I feel like the BU reputation in BostonHistory/Histories (art history/etc.)
I feel like the BU reputation in Boston isn't the strongest due to the fact that it is surrounded by other great institutions (Harvard, MIT, Tufts, etc.). However, in NY, the BU reputation is great. I went on many interviews in which the recruiter or person intervieiwing me said "well we know you're smart if you went to BU...". I had no idea. Friends also tell me that the BU name is great to have on your resume in the south and in Cali. I guess it pays to go to a big name, name brand school that everyone has heard of.

Question
Despite growing up only a half hour away,BrightHistory/Histories (art history/etc.)
Despite growing up only a half hour away, attending BU was a huge culture shock. I had grown up amongst the affluent, but had never experience such showy displays of wealth until my Freshman year. I hate to generalize, but I believe this is due to the fact that many students are from NY, NJ, MD, etc.

At the same time, the great thing about BU is that students come from everywhere. My floor represented 20 different states.

My social life was lackluster until I got a decent fake, and I think the vast majority of BU students would say the same thing. BU is quite strict when it comes to partying on or near campus. In terms of academics, I couldn't have asked for a better education. BU offers classes in basically everything, and the vast majority of professors are so passionate about what they teach that it's almost impossible for you not to be inspired. Corny, I know.
